Obituary for George Lawrence Hansen George L. Hansen, 82, of Salem, passed away in a snowmobiling accident on Friday, January 18, 2019, in Marquette, MI. Born in Thorp, WI, on August 10, 1936, he was the son of the late George and Katherine (Chaplinski) Hansen. He graduated from Colby High School in 1955, then proudly enlisted into the US Navy.

After George’s honorable discharge in 1959, he began working at American Motors/Chrysler as a tool and die maker and retired after 42 years. He also worked as a projectionist at the Roosevelt Theater for 16 years. On September 12, 1966, he married Veronica Andraschko.

George was proud to be involved in the UAW Local 72 and Projectionist Unions, and the Arbutus Lake Association. He was an avid ATV rider and snowmobiler, enjoying those adventures with his closest buddy, Chip. He enjoyed Canadian fishing trips, reading, and striking up conversations with those passing by on his daily walks.

George loved spending time with his friends and family. A recent event was being a part of the Honor Flight on June 2, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Veronica Hansen of Salem; his two daughters, Renee (Ronald) Edmonds of Silver Lake, and Rhonda (John) Guido of Antioch, IL; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Eric) Radzik, Jacqueline, Natalie, and Anthony Guido, and Jarod, George and Gavin Edmonds; four sisters, Karen Sommer of Missoula, MT, Adeline Zobrack of Milwaukee, Laurie Kubera of Kansasville, and Marcela Martin of Orlando, FL; and two brothers, Ronald “Pete” Hansen of Superior, and Robert “Bob” Hansen of Woodruff.

He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 26th, at Proko Funeral Home, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:30 p.m. Interment will take place privately at a later date at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
