Shafer, 84, of Kenosha, entered her Heavenly home on Sunday, July 1, 2018. She was born on January 16, 1934 to the late Michael and Barbara (Brezney) Ricchio in Racine. She was educated in the schools of Kenosha and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1952.

On August 15, 1953 she married Dennis A. Shafer in Kenosha. He preceded her in death in 1993. Kathleen was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Kathleen was a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed church, choir, canning, sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting, gardening and spending time with her family. Her love of quilting was shown in the many quilts made for her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Her sewing machine was always up and ready to tackle the next project. A piece of her remains in every stitch she ever sewed. Kathleen is survived by her children Sandra (Randy Bergholz) Creekmore, Kathryn Dickey, Duane (Laurie) Shafer, Beverly Visintainer and Denise (Nugent) Carl, her sisters Barbara (Larry) Menarek and Sylvia Hebel, her grandchildren Jeannie Creekmore, T.J. Visintainer, Joshua Dickey, Rachel Dickey, Jared Dietz, Alex Visintainer and Michael Shafer and her great grandchildren Aubrey and Willow Visintainer and Lilly Lachman.

She is preceded in death by a son Glenn in 1962, brothers Alex, James and Thomas Ricchio and a sister Gloria Rushing. Funeral Services for Kathleen will be held on Saturday, July 7th at 11:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church (2026 – 22nd Ave. ).

Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Somers. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The family would like to thank Pastor Roemke, the Cancer Center Staff and Dr. Knight, the staff at St. Catherine’s and her neighbors Randy and Tara and Terry and Lee.
