Obituary for John Kenneth Woodbeck John K. Woodbeck, 92, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. A service honoring John’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Northfield Church, with the Rev. Dale Harlow officiating.

Interment will follow at North Lawn Cemetery, with military honors presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856 and the United States Navy Honor Guard. Visitation is 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. John is survived by his wife Shirley; his children, Rosemary (Steve) Samuels, Humboldt; Jayne McDowell (Glen Roest), Fort Dodge; Crystal (Boyd) Eekhoff, Belmond; Annette (Brian) Croner, Estherville; five grandchildren, Terry, Joey, Peter, Jill and Andrew; six great grandchildren; and his sister Esther Nickelson, Otho. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 10 brothers and sisters.

John Kenneth Woodbeck, the son of Frank and Lois (Gochanour) Woodbeck, was born March 3, 1926, in Columbus, North Dakota. He attended school in Armstrong. John served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1950.

On March 5, 1953, John was united in marriage to Shirley Bygness in Jackson, Minnesota. John was employed with Georgia Pacific for 36 years before his retirement in 1990. He worked two seasons as a night watchman at Yellowstone National Park and the couple enjoyed many winters spent in Texas.

John was a member of Northfield Church, V.F.W. Post No. 1856, and Local Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers of America. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and shuffleboard.
