Obituary for Harold D. Morrison Harold D. Morrison passed away to eternal rest on June 15, 2018 at Friendship Haven in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. A service honoring Harold’s life will be Wednesday June 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jennifer Owen officiating.
Interment will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W Post No. 1856 and the Iowa Army National Guard.
Visitation will take place 2 hour prior at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family. Harold was born May 27, 1924 and raised in Jordan, Iowa to parents Boyd and Rena (Merchant) Morrison.
Harold’s family farmed east of Jordan until the family moved to Ames, Iowa where he finished school, then enlisted in the Army – receiving training in tank warfare and radio electronics. Harold took part in the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach as part of the 6th Armored Division in Patton’s 3rd Army. Seeing action through France and Germany, including the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp.
During WW2 Harold was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. On returning back to the states at wars end, Harold was united in marriage with Eloise (Crispin) Morrison on the Crispin farm north east of Jordan, Iowa. The couple settled in Boone, Iowa where Harold worked at Garretson Electric and they started a family; then moving on to Ft.
Dodge in 1952 where his family grew while he worked for Kennel’s, the Hieman Company, then ultimately Equitable Insurance until his retirement. Harold was very active in his community and church; organizing and serving in Boy Scouts as troop leader, serving on various boards and civic organizations and participating in Gideon’s, Jail Ministry and teaching in Sunday School. Harold is survived by his children; son Marvin (Shirley) Morrison, Bruce (Georgeann) Morrison, and daughter Beverly (Sam) Ashton; two step-daughters Peg (Tim) Watson and Deb (Mark) Cullen; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, nine great-grand children, two step great- grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, brother Clarence (Esther Gene), wife Eloise, and second wife Pauline (Rhodes). Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Harold D. Morrison please visit our Sympathy Store.
