Obituary for Pauline Genevieve (Evermann) Underbrink Pauline Genevieve (Evermann) Underbrink, 99, of Fort Dodge, died Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Friendship Haven. A service honoring Pauline’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22, at the Hearth at Kenyon Place in Friendship Haven, Rev. Jennifer Owen officiating.

She is survived by her children Charles Earl (Melanie) Underbrink (and their daughter Piper) of Park City, Utah; Thomas David (Catherine) Underbrink (and their children, Lucas, Erin and Evan) of Buckley, Washington; Ann Underbrink Hill (and her children, Jim, John and Jessica) of Edina, Minnesota; and three great-grandchildren (Cohen, Delaney and Draven). She was preceded in death by her husband Earl J. Underbrink, by her parents and by her son James Stuart Underbrink. Pauline Genevieve Evermann, the daughter of Charles Evermann and Harriet Schienke, was born May 8, 1919, near Malone in Clinton County, Iowa.

She taught school in a one room school house near Low Moor, Iowa beginning in 1939 before graduating from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1947. She taught at the University of Iowa Laboratory School. After she received her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Iowa, she became a professor at the University of Northern Iowa in the education department.

In 1950 Pauline was united in marriage to Earl J. Underbrink on the campus of the University of Iowa. Pauline and Earl were married for 64 years. She was a pianist and was active in PEO and the Ingleside Book Study group throughout her adult life.

After raising their four children, she and Earl traveled extensively, loved cruises and enjoyed spending time with family at their lake home on the Whitefish chain in Cross Lake, Minnesota. Pauline was known for her constant optimism and positive energy. Pauline was always elegant, incredibly strong, a wonderful wife, mother, teacher, friend and a spectacular role model for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
