John L. McLean, Jr. age 80 of Russellville, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was born in Columbia, Tennessee on October 18, 1938 to the late John L. McLean, Sr. and Dorothy Porter McLean. During his youth, his family moved to Russellville where he attended the city schools and graduated from Russellville High School in 1957.

He is also a graduate of the University of the South in Sewanee, TN with a B.S. Degree in Forestry in 1961. After completing U.S. Naval Officers’ Candidate School in Newport, RI in June 1962, Jack was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy. While serving on board LST-758, he was involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He served on the staff of the Commander in Chief of the Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, VA and while there achieved the rank of Lieutenant. Upon returning to Russellville in June 1965, Jack worked for Commonwealth Fertilizer Co. as Production Manager. Subsequently, he owned and operated the Western Auto store and later was Assistant District Manager for the area TVA Energy Program.

He retired as Director of the Russellville Housing Authority. In earlier years, Jack was active as a Scout Master and formed an Explorer Scout Post. He was a member of the Russellville Rotary Club, the Russellville/Logan County Zoning Adjustment Board and the Russellville Tree Board.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Hicks McLean. He is survived by: His Wife of 55 years ~ Betty McLean 1 Son ~ Joe Frank McLean ~ Worthington, OH 1 Brother ~ Porter McLean ~ Lake Geneva, WI 5 Grandchildren ~ Madison McLean, Mallory McLean, Maxwell McLean, William McLean and Davis McLean Funeral Services for Jack McLean will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Geoffrey Butcher officiating with burial to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation at the church on Saturday will be held from 12:30 pm to the service hour of 2:30 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church or Hosparus Barren River. Envelopes will be available at the church.
