Obituary for Johnnie Apple GREENFIELD – Johnnie O. Apple, age 74, of Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born in Indianapolis at Methodist Hospital on January 14, 1944 to Floyd E. and Ruth B. (Maxwell) Apple. He graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1962.

Johnnie served in the US Army National Guard PFC Infantry from 1965-1970. He married Patsy J. (Turner) on April 25, 1966. He worked at Schmidt Oliver Sales & Service in Greenfield for many years.

Johnnie was a lifelong Hancock County resident and grain and livestock farmer retiring in 2018. For 46 years he raised purebred Dorset sheep. Johnnie was a member of the Hancock County Sheep Producers and for many years the Dorset breed manager at the Indiana State Fair.

He was also a member of the Hancock County Farm Bureau Board. Johnnie is survived by his wife, Patsy Apple; children, John A. (Cheryl) Apple and Jeffrey T. (Susan) Apple; grandchildren, Juliann M. Apple, Jennifer L. Apple, and Jason T. Apple; sister, Suzanne Smith; sister-in-law, Diane Apple; nephews and nieces, Bryan Smith, Mike Smith, Tim Smith, Darlene Apple, and Christy Stephenson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ruth Apple; and brother, Tommie W. Apple.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary.

Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Hancock County Sheep Producers, 8 West Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary. Friends may share a memory or a condolence at www.
