Cobbs. She attended Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic School in Harlem, New York and from there attending Cathedral High School also in New York. Her education was furthered at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and The City College of New York.

Joi was raised by her mother and grandmother. Her caring father was a constant of love and support. Joi was the oldest child with two brothers, Maurice Willams and Brandon Erik Harris.

Joi grew up in Harlem, New York and spent the majority of her time with her friends at The Minisink Townhouse and Camp Minisink where she pledged the Tapawingo Honor Society, in 1985. From there, she became a Junior Counselor while still at Minisink and then Head Counselor of her Unit. Minisink had a profound and positive impact on her development and character.

Despite not liking the sand as a little girl, Joi loved to go to the beach with her family. Her grandmother, was known to pack all of her friends into the back of her station wagon and transport them to Riis Park in Far Rockaway, New York, during the summers; and this tradition continued with her own children taking them by train for a day in the sun. After leaving the City College of New York, she was employed at various capacities with the City of New York, until she joined the New York City Police Department as a Police Administrative Aide in 1999.

She was actively employed with the Department until her death. It was there that she met lifelong friends and enjoyed helping people get the assistance they needed from the Midtown South Precinct. Joi married Gregory Eiland and from that union produced three beautiful children, Blaine, Sommer and Skylar.

She loved her children and was extremely devoted to them. She encouraged her oldest to go to college, sending him to Morrisville State College where he will be graduating with his Associate Degree in Business in May. Joi always emphasized the importance of education and she worked to ensure that Blaine would set a fine example for his younger sisters.

She was proud that her daughter Sommer was graduating from high school this year and her daughter Skylar is an honor student. We know she will be smiling down from Heaven when Blaine and Sommer receive their Diplomas. She encouraged her children in their extra-curricular activities, never missing football games, dance recitals, choir performances, or soccer and baseball games.

She was their number one fan! She loved to travel and went on many vacations with her family and friends. Walt Disney World and the Atlantis in the Bahamas were among her favorite destinations, where she would always come back beautifully tanned.

She recently enjoyed a trip with her children to Florida where they were able to enjoy all of the roller coasters. You could always find the Eiland Family in the front seat of a roller coaster, arms up and smiling. Left to cherish her memory are: her grandmother, Aurelia Sargent; mother, Pamela Harris; brothers, Maurice (Trista) and Brandon (Brittany); children, Blaine, Sommer and Skylar; aunt, Gail Sargent; uncles, Joseph Cobbs and Harold Bello; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
