Joseph “Joe”‘s Obituary Joseph “Joe” Daniel Brunk, 83, of Harrisonburg, passed away on December 21, 2018. He was born on September 19, 1935 to Henry and Nora Kraus Brunk in Tacoma Park, Maryland. Joe enjoyed playing golf, all sports and being involved with his church, Harrisonburg Mennonite.

He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. On October 26, 1957, he married Mary Louise Ours Brunk and enjoyed 61 years of marriage. They have a son, Craig L. Brunk and wife Shelly of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Cheri B. Shenk and husband Mel of Newport News, Virginia; grandchildren, Allison Newhouse (Cameron) Selah Shenk, Dillion Brunk (Emily), Daniel Shenk, Micah Shenk, Noah Shenk; great-grandchildren, Luke M. Newhouse, and Darren L. Brunk.

Joe was involved with ownership of the family business in Bladensburg, Maryland, People’s Supply Company. He was a graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School, class of 1954. After moving to Virginia in the late 1970’s he became involved in several local businesses including real estate.

His joy was providing affordable housing, especially to the Laotian community. It was a very rewarding ministry for him. Besides his wife Mary Louise, children grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he is survived by brothers, Nelson (Ruth) and Henry (Edna) of Harrisonburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Esther B. Loux, Ellen B. Griffin, Ruth B. Horst, Alma B. Baer, and Perry E. Brunk. A memorial service will be held at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11 a.m. Burial will be held privately at Weavers Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, December 28, 2018 at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. At his wishes, the body was cremated.
