Uldis “John”‘s Obituary Uldis Janis Sakss (John), died on January 27, 2019, at the age of 79. Born in Latvia in 1939, lived in Canada, and came to the US in 1958. A veteran of the US Air Force.

Received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ohio State and worked on an advance degree at American University. Spent his entire career at NASA, where he received the NASA Exceptional Service Medal for service in the development and enhancement of NASA’s international cooperation in civil aeronautics and space. He was a reader of literature, a writer of short stories, and a student of science.

He enjoyed skiing, dogs, and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Yula; his son, Eric; daughter, Katherine; grandson Austin; granddaughters, Zoe and Phoebe, and his sister, Selga Sakss. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
