Shirley’s Obituary Shirley Marie (Kibler) Jarrels, 80 of Harrisonburg, quietly passed away in her sleep at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehab in Fishersville, Virginia on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. She had been feeling health for the number of years but is now without pain and is with her siblings and other loved ones in the House of the Lord… probably dancing, as now she is pain free. She was born on June 14, 1938 in the Rockingham County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Samuel Ford and Anna Mae (Baker) Kibler.
She was one of 10 children. Many people may remember her from her early employment days and the L&S Diner in Harrisonburg. Where she was known for her beautiful smile and her quick wit as she had a way of making people laugh.
Later she became employed by Owens-Brockway and retired after 35 years. She is survived by a daughter Pamela Marie Saylor; sons Charles Clifford (Chuck) Jarrels Jr, and wife Cindy, Donald Wayne Jarrels and wife Marsha; grandson Travis Jarrels and wife Jackie; two great grandchildren Andie and Allie; grandson Trevor Jarrels; sister Anna Lee Branner and husband Bob; a brother William Kibler and wife Pam; granddaughter Winter “Nicole” Sweezy and great-grandchildren Denelle, Leah, Kara, Caroline and Arrington (AJ); grandson Joseph Braithwaite and wife Jennifer and great-grandchildren Tailyer, Meckenzee, Tyler and Nick; grandchildren Clay Gettings and April Gettings and great-grandchildren Chance and Cheyenne. Special mention of people she very much loved and appreciated, some of whom assisted with her care before she went to a nursing home; Amanda Dove, Barbara Kibler Knight, Augustus “Dino” Julias, Brad Mckinney, Pat Brown and Sandra Miller Murphy.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in the death by her parents and siblings Treva Bowman, Glenna Halterman, Patsy Morris, Nellie Knight, Mary Grandle, Bobby Kibler and Samuel Kibler Sr. A great-granddaughter Natalie Ann Hoffman, daughter, Debra Lynn “Liz” Gettings and the love of her life, Alvin A. Mullenax. Shirley had the love for the beach and was a sun worshiper.
For over 30 years, she made weekly trips to Colonial Beach, Virginia no matter the season, where during the warmer months she learned to water ski alongside her daughter Pam. They could be seen in the Potomac River performing tricks behind the boat together to the enjoyment and applause of many onlookers. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, macramé and mad many beautiful things until she was no longer able due to arthritis.
She also had a love for music and dancing, snow skiing and gardening.
