James “Jimmy”‘s Obituary James Elwood “Jimmy” Blakey 62, of Elkton, passed away Sunday January 20, 2019, at his home. He was born November 21, 1956, in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late James N. and Myrtle Toliver Blakey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Blakey.

Jimmy grew up in near Elkton and was a 1975 graduate of Elkton High School where he excelled in sports. He worked for Dominion Virginia Power and then was a supervisor at Cargill for a number of years prior to his illness. He was an active member of Mt.

Paran Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He was a referee for the Virginia High School League for a number of years, and loved watching sports, especially the Washington Redskins. He was loved in the community and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Blakey; children, Stefonia Blakey-Mason, Chauncey Blakey and Doris Carias Lara; four grandchildren; sisters, Catherine Hatcher, Jacqueline Blakey-Simmons and Collen Walden; a special cousin, Ralph Sampson Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Saturday January 26, 2019 at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. Theresa Woodson officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. Paran Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10am to 12pm on Saturday at the funeral home in Elkton.
