Melvyn’s Obituary Melvyn Crockett Heishman, 90, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away at the Wenger House at VMRC on Monday, February 11, 2019. Mr. Heishman was born on May 5, 1928 in Singers Glen and was the son of the late Elmer and Josephine (Brown) Day and his adoptive parents, Jessie and Minnie (Brunk) Heishman who adopted him at the age of nine months. He was a member of the National Guard.

He retired from Smith’s Transfer after twenty four and a half years of service. He also drove for Hartman’s Incorporated for twelve years. He was a member of Fairview Church of the Brethren, but attended Linville Congregational Church.

On March 22, 1948, he married the former Betty Painter who passed away on April 20, 2008. Surviving are two daughters, Linda Myers and husband Donald of Rockingham, Brenda Alder of Harrisonburg; grandchildren, Michelle Mullins, Sara Price, Justin Myers; great-grandchildren, Zachary Price, Hailey Myers, Kaitlyn Mullins, William Mullins, Graham Myers, and Cayden Price. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Heishman was preceded in death by two children, Carolyn Heishman who passed away on July 24, 1993, M.C. Heishman who passed away on February 9, 1983; siblings, Nancy Heishman Puffenbarger, Adgel Day Troutman and Jessie Mae Heishman.

Pastor Jim Hall will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Church of the Brethren, 3716 Snapps Creek Road, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22802. Burial will follow at Lindale Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home.

Friends my also call at the home of his daughter, Linda Myers, 3184 Clayborn Road, Rockingham at any time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 The family would like to give thanks to VMRC and their staff for his care. They wish to extend a special thank you to Ashley, Tiffany, Donna and Kristen, Dr. Stauffer, Dr. Moore and Dr. Allana.
