William “Pete”‘s Obituary William Allen “Pete” Whetzel, 80, of Linville, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the INova Fairfax Hospital. Mr. Whetzel was born on August 21, 1938 in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Russell Allen and Ressie Pearl Whetzel. He worked as an electrician at G&M Sales for many years prior to his retirement.

Pete also loved to go hunting and fishing and restored an old tractor that he drove in parades. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren.

On June 21, 1958 he married the former Elaine Hill, who survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Whetzel is survived by his children, Anna Joseph and husband David of Hinton, and William Whetzel Jr., and wife Robin of Singers Glen; a sister, Betty Curry of Broadway; three grandchildren, Amanda Thomas and husband Tyler; Rachel Bucher and husband Joseph, Blake Whetzel; two great-grandchildren, Knox Thomas and Liam Bucher. Pete was also preceded in death by siblings, Warren Whetzel and Judy Mohler.

The funeral service will be held on Friday March 8, 2019 at 11 AM at the Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren with Pastor Jon Prater officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Whetzel family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 PM at the McMullen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Whetzel Family, 12941 Hollar School Road, Linville, VA 22834 to help offset unexpected medical expenses.
