Betty’s Obituary Betty Jo Purdham, 71, of Stanley, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 27, 2019, at her home surrounded by friends and family. She was born April 8, 1948, in Harrisonburg, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Winfred “Bud” and Merle Sampson Manuel. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Shelby McCoy and Susan Meneely.

Betty Jo was employed as Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer at Pioneer Bank in Stanley where she served 46 years before retiring. She was an active member of Stanley United Methodist Church where she was treasurer. She loved going to Myrtle Beach and Nags Head with the “Chesapeake Gang” and Judy and Dale Painter.

Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was anxiously waiting to meet her three great-grandchildren that were going to be born this summer. On February 20, 1966, she married, Kenneth Lee Purdham, who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Karen Sue Breeden and Karla Renee Purdham; grandchildren, Dustin Breeden and significant other, Heather Campbell, Derek Breeden and wife, Ashlee, Jason Cave and Joshua Alger and wife, Brittany; great-grandchildren, Makenna Breeden, Liam Cave, Cole Cave and Brynlee Wolfe; brother-in-law, who was like a brother, Douglas Purdham and wife, Karen Paige and numerous extended family.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Stanley United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. and will be conducted by Pastor Anne Sisson of Stanley United Methodist Church. A fellowship meal will be served immediately following the service.

Friends may gather at Betty Jo’s home at any time. Memorial contributions may be made to Stanley United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 15, Stanley, Virginia, 22851 or Casey’s Backpack, at the church address.
