Doris’ Obituary Doris Katharine (Miller) Smith, 88, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Smith was born on May 12, 1930 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late DeWitt Charles and Flossie (Rhodes) Miller. She was a member of the Montezuma Church of the Brethren.

Doris worked in food service at Wilbur S. Pence Middle School prior to her retirement. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her pies and homemade bread. She also enjoyed writing poems, was a gifted quilter and did cross stitch work.

She played basketball at Dayton High School and graduated in 1948. On February 4, 1950 she married Gilmer “Gig” Smith who preceded her in death on June 21, 1995. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughters, Susan Smith Kuykendall and husband David, Tamara Smith Hall and husband Ben of Dayton, of Dayton; a sister, JoAnn Huffman of Harrisonburg; a brother, Donald E. Miller and wife Barbara of Roanoke, VA; grandson, Wesley Kuykendall of Dayton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by a brother, DeWitt H. Miller; and a sister, Geraldine Snyder. A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 16, 2019 at Montezuma Church of the Brethren at 6 PM with Pastor David R. Miller officiating. Burial will be held privately.
