Betty’s Obituary Betty Jean Showalter, 89, a resident of Rockingham County, passed away on February 16, 2019 at Bridgewater Home. Betty was born on November 29, 1929 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of Earl Arthur Showalter and Erthyl Jones Showalter. Surviving are three brothers, Neil Showalter and Tom Showalter of Harrisonburg, and Jack Showalter of Hinton.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, and their children, who received the blessing of Betty’s loving spirit of servanthood. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen S. Miller and Norma S. Cupp, and brothers Jimmie Showalter, Waldo Showalter, and Lynnwood Showalter. Betty was a lifelong member of Antioch United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school to children for decades.

Betty was a homemaker and caregiver. She was devoted to and loved family, both close and distant. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, and was a longtime and active member of the Mt.

Clinton Home Demonstration Club. Betty exuded kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and humor. She was a testament to living a selfless, Christ-like life.

Wendell “Sonny” Henkel will conduct a funeral service on March 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Antioch United Church of Christ, 4107 Fort Lynne Road, Harrisonburg, Virginia. Burial at Mt. Horeb Cemetery will follow the funeral service.

The family will receive friends at Antioch United Church of Christ at 1:00 p.m. on March 2, 2019 prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Antioch United Church of Christ, 4107 Fort Lynne Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22802. Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.
