Lena’s Obituary Lena Beachy Yutzy Showalter, wife of Omar Showalter, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2019 surrounded by family in her home in Park Place at the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, Harrisonburg, Virginia. Lena was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was born January 14, 1931 in Plain City Ohio to Eli C. and Maryann Kauffman Beachy.

On June 10, 1955 she married Norman E. Yutzy of Plain City, Ohio until his passing on December 26, 2000. In addition to her parents and first husband, Lena was preceded in death by brothers Jonas, John, Noah, Neil, Alvin, infant brother Leroy, sisters Anna Christner and Florence Hostetler. On January 15, 2006, Lena remarried Omar Showalter who survives.

She also survived by her children, David (Jewel) Yutzy Timberville, Virginia, Lenora (Rick) Bell and Charlene (Robert) Jacob of Harrisonburg Virginia, grandchildren Ben (Risa) Yutzy, Kristin (Nels) Akerson, Aaron (Andrea) Yutzy, Lauren (Anthony) Troyer, Rachel Bell, Samantha and Adam Jacob and six great grandchildren. Lena is also survived by Omar’s children Ruth (Kevin) Showalter, Indiana, Lois (Roy) Blankenship, Delaware, Paul (Libby) Showalter, Virginia, and Jesse Showalter & John Turner, Florida, along with 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, sister Betty Lyles, Georgia, brother Eli C. (Katie) Beachy, Ohio, faithful friend Mildred Hostetler, special caregiver Elizabeth Rohrer, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lena was a member at Lindale Mennonite Church.

As a pastor’s wife, she extended the gift of hospitality to many, was passionate about teaching children’s Sunday school, and was active in Mennonite Woman. She enjoyed quilting in her spare time and made a quilt for each of her grandchildren. Lena enjoyed singing, sewing, cooking and had a passion for growing flowers of all kinds.

She also traveled extensively throughout her life including Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the US. Visitation will be at Lindale Mennonite Church from 5-7 pm Friday March 1, 2019. The burial will be Saturday March 2, 2019 Lindale Mennonite Church at 11:00 am.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in Strite Auditorium at the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community on Saturday March 2 at 2:00 pm. Memorial gifts may be made to Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, 1501 Virginia Ave. , Harrisonburg, VA 22802; or Gift and Thrift, 731 Mt.
