Hirut’s Obituary Hirut Dadebo, 61, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018. Hirut was born on November 25, 1957 in Wallaita Soddu, Ethiopia. She graduated from Atse Gelawdious High School in Nazareth Ethiopia, HMMM (Adama Hospital) as health assistant in Nazareth, Ethiopia in 1970, the Black Lion School of Nursing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1991, and received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Mennonite University in 2000.

She worked in Nazareth, Ethiopia for Haile Mariam Mamo Memorial Hospital and was employed by Oak Lea Nursing Home for 22 years in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She was a member of Meserete Kristos Church in Nazareth, Ethiopia and Lindale Mennonite Church in Linville, Virginia. In 2009, she became a naturalized citizen of the United States.

Hirut loved to help others, especially the residents at Oak Lea Nursing Home. She was an excellent cook, frequently preparing and sharing her Ethiopian food with friends. She enjoyed children, cats, flowers and the wonders of God’s creation.

She is survived by her family and friends in Ethiopia, the United States and Canada. A memorial service will held on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Lindale Mennonite Church, 6255 Jesse Bennett Way, Linville, Virginia with Pastor Peg Engle and Leanne Benner officiating. Burial will follow at Lindale Cemetery.

There will be no formal visitation or viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meserete Kristos College by making the check payable to MK College Link, PO Box 1701, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22803. Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.
