Joseph Ray Ouzts, 89, resident of Wesley Commons, husband of Sara Quattlebaum Ouzts, passed away on June 29, 2018, at Self Regional HealthCare Medical Center. Born in Saluda County, on August 1, 1928, he was the son of the late Charlie Theodore and Nellie Mae O. Ouzts. Reared primarily in the Kirksey-section of Greenwood County, Ray was one of ten children and cherished the many wonderful memories of childhood with his loving family.

A long-time member of Mathews United Methodist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, he formerly served in numerous positions including a Trustee of the Church. Ray was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Sara for 70 years and a wonderful and caring father to his children.

Surviving in addition to his wife Sara, are his sons, Joseph Anthony Ouzts of Spartanburg, and James Charles Ouzts of Charlotte, N.C.; his granddaughters, Michelle Manley Bradwell of Columbia, and Lacy Ouzts Moore (John) of Greenwood; his two great-grandsons, John Luke Moore and Hudson Joel Moore, both of Greenwood; his sister, Janice O. Wells of Greenwood; his brothers, F. Wayne Ouzts of Greenwood, and Philip A. Ouzts of Winter Park, FL. Mr. Ouzts was predeceased by his daughter Deborah R. Ouzts Manley and his son Barron Keith Ouzts as well as sisters Lois O. Hawkins, Mary O. Corley, Dorothy O. Bryant, and Naomi O. Wells, and brothers Jack E. Ouzts and Charlie T. Ouzts, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018, from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Dr. J. William Harris and Reverend Michael Evans officiating. The family will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be nephews along with Michael Quattlebaum, John T. Moore, Jr., James Tompkins, Thomas W. Jackson, Jr., Richard H. Jackson and Ralph Thomas. Members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class will serve as honorary escorts.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to both the assisted living and nursing care staffs of Wesley Commons who provided such loving, dedicated and compassionate care for Mr. Ouzts. The family is at the home in Belle Meade. Memorials may be made to Mathews United Methodist Church, 800 Wright Ave.
