Douglas “Doug” Q. Gilreath, 88, resident of 704 Nelson Street, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 28, 2018. Born July 18, 1929, in Piedmont, he was a son of the late W.K. “Sarge” and Edith Hughey Gilreath. He was a graduate of Piedmont High School and was a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

A member of The Church of the Resurrection, Episcopal, he was also… Read More » a member of the Greenwood Country Club where he was a single digit handicap golfer and the Greenwood Anglers Sportsman Society with which he demonstrated his skills as a master fisherman. Surviving are a sister, Patricia Gilreath of Charleston and a brother, Charles Gilreath of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family and caregivers, including his longtime friend and coworker, Debbie Medlock and friend, Bill Tinsley, would like to extend words of appreciation to his sitters including Doretta Sprowl, Jackie Paul, Mary Hackett, Tiffany Holloway, Barbara Gilchrist, Brandy White, Claudia Starling and his maintenance men, Frank Brown and Thomas Sprowl, for their devotion and kindnesses extended over the years. They would also like to offer thanks and appreciation to Dr. Sam Burnette and the staff of Greenwood Internal Medicine and the staff of Hospice Care of the Piedmont. Services will be conducted at 5:00 pm Sunday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.

Cindy Thorpe officiating. The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
