Josephine “Josie” Slone, 69, of Colson passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019 at her residence. Josephine was the daughter of the late Uriah and Connie Johnson Bates. She was the widow of Jimmy Ray Slone.

Surviving are 3 daughters: Anna Covington of Colson, Rebecca Jean (Doug) Lucas of Premium, and Lola Louise (Tony) Jent of Colson; 2 brothers: Beckham Bates of Whitesburg and Worley Bates of Colson; 2 sisters: Lola Eldridge of Sandlick and Maxine Quillen of Isom; 3 grandchildren: Charles, Justin, and Anthony; 2 great grandchildren: Jordan and Gracie; aunt Lauda Johnson of Garner. Josephine was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Jacob Bates, Estil Bates, Joseph Bates, and Samuel Bates; 3 sisters: Elizabeth Hamilton, Eliza Combs, and Mable Bates. Funeral: 1:00 PM Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Blackey Pentecostal Church with Bruce Eldridge and Ray Begley officiating.

Visitation: 6:00 PM Saturday at the Blackey Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow in the Bates-Wells Cemetery.
