Karl Eugene “Gene”‘s Obituary Karl Eugene “Gene” Newcomer, age 92, of Nappanee, died at 5:30 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2019 at Elkhart Center for Hospice, after a 6 month illness. He was born October 9, 1926 in Elkhart County to Maurice and Ellen (Krull) Newcomer. On June 6, 1951 he married Evelyn L. Boyer in Bremen.

She preceded him in death March 28, 2004. Karl served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during WWII. He was a lifetime area resident.

Karl had worked at Mutschler’s for over 48 years. He enjoyed camping and woodworking. Karl was a member of the Nappanee Church of the Brethren and the Nappanee American Legion.

He is survived by his sons, Mark (Londa) Newcomer, Nappanee, Mike (Darla) Newcomer, Wakarusa, Matt (Irene) Newcomer, Elkhart; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild;and a sister, Joan White, Lagrange. He was preceded in death by a brother, Max Newcomer; sisters, Carol Hope and Janet Schlemmer. Family and friends may call from 2-8 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2019 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service, Saturday, March 16th at Nappanee Church of the Brethren.

Rev. Byrl Shaver will officiate. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery, with Military Rites.

Memorial contributions may be given to Nappanee Church of the Brethren.
