She was born on May 16, 1929 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Emory and Clara (Keeler) Hall. Kathie graduated from East High School in Rockford, IL, attended Stephens College in Missouri and later graduated from the University of Kentucky.

This is where she met Eugene Douglas Scott whom she married on September 29, 1951. Kathie majored in Animal Husbandry and always demonstrated an intense love for animals. She adopted and fostered many pets over the years and gave them loving homes.

She was a championship horsewoman and showed 5 gated saddle bred horses all through high school and college. Her most cherished and beloved horse was Royal Flush or “Big Red”. She continued her passion for horses throughout her adult life by owning several horses with her children and grandchildren.

Kathie and Gene spent their married life in Beloit, where they raised their three children, Douglas, Sarah and Elizabeth. They were both very loving and involved parents who encouraged their children to enjoy friends, sports, work and life. They were active in building their business, Amwood Homes, and enjoyed many friends and activities in their community.

Gene, who founded Amwood Homes in 1964, one of the Midwest’s largest home building companies, passed away in 1988 after 37 years of marriage. Kathie married Dr. William Freeman in May of 1996, and they spent a short, but wonderful 18 months of marriage together before Bill’s sudden death in 1997. Kathie was an avid and skilled bridge player, who not only played competitively, but also taught bridge lessons for many years.

She always said ‘playing bridge is the most fun you can have”. Kathie studied bridge well into her 80’s. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, First Congregational Church of Beloit, and Beloit Country Club for years.

Kathie was a generous supporter and volunteer for many local organizations including Beloit Health System and organizations that benefit animals. Survivors include her three children, Douglas (Mary) Scott of Janesville, WI, Sarah (Ron) Starmer of Roscoe, IL, and Elizabeth Singles of South Beloit, IL; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Scott Curwood of Sydney, Australia, Megan (Ben) Vadnais of Madison, WI, Ryan Starmer of Chicago, IL, Kaylin (Jeff) Boehms of Wauwatosa, WI, Kyle Singles of Chicago, IL, Kevin Singles of Austin, TX, and Rachel Barry of Beloit, WI; also many great grandchildren. All of them took wonderful care of Kathie in her final years and most of them visited her in her last days.

Kathie’s five step children, from her marriage to William Freeman have also been very good to her. Kathie’s final years were spent caring for her loyal canine companion, Tricket. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Sandy Hall of Rockford, IL and her two husbands.

No one had a greater Mom than you! You taught us great values, fortitude and family togetherness. We will always cherish our wonderful days together.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Gold, Comfort Keepers, Beloit Regional Hospice, Pauline and others who cared for Kathie in her final days. Per Kathie’s wishes there will be no services. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Katharine’s name at the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin. Memorials can be made to this organization to help them care for animals and build a much-needed new facility.
