Combs, age 57, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 8, 2019, in her new home, surrounded by her husband and children. Kathi was born November 21, 1961, in Biloxi, MS, on Keesler Air Force Base to Conn and Linda Hutzell. On January 29, 1983, she married Steven Combs of Catlin.

Steve and Kathi continued to enjoy life together until she passed. The two of them spent countless days taking long car-rides and enjoying time on the banks of the Salt Fork River. They had three children together, Bethany, Jonathon, and Alaura.

Kathi was known for how fiercely she loved her family and the joy she brought her children and grandchildren and became a second mother to countless friends. She graduated from Catlin High School with honors in 1979, and she went on to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. Starting in an entry-level position, she worked her way up, and after 13 years in the Danville office, she was promoted to senior manager in the Rockford office, retiring in 2007.

She loved the time she spent there and cherished the lifelong friends she made. Kathi’s loss is mourned by her loving husband, Steve; her three children, Bethany Williams of Tilton, Jonathon Combs of Catlin, and Alaura Combs of Rockford; and her mother, Lin of Catlin. She is dearly missed by her six grandchildren, Ethan, Anthony, Aleena, Gavin, Eliza, and Desmond.

She is also survived by two siblings, Dawn Parks and Rick Hutzell as well as many neices and nephews. She will be meeting her dad, Conn, in the afterlife to watch the Illini play their hearts out during March Madness. Kathi will be remembered as a tenacious and loving woman whose laugh and love were contagious.

The only thing warmer than her smile was her heart. Those whose lives were touched by Kathi are invited to reminisce and pay respects at the Catlin United Methodist Church on Friday, February 15, from 3-5, with services immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the OSF Cancer Treatment Center in Danville, Illinois, where her father was treated like family throughout his long battle with prostate cancer.
