Kathryn Lucille (Purkhiser) Embry, 105, of Tullahoma, TN, died Friday, March 15th, 2019, at the Life Care Center of Tullahoma. Kathryn was a member of the Church of Christ at Cedar Lane. She was born February 12, 1914, in Seymour, IN, to the late Harry Robert Purkhiser, Sr. and Hester Belle Kelso.

Her family lived in Seymour for several years, then moved to North Vernon, IN. Her father worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and the company moved them around, allowing them to live in several places. Kathryn married Earl Guthrie Embry on February 27, 1932.

They were married 36 years before his death on July 4th, 1968. Following his death, Kathryn went to work for the Jennings County Board of Education. She worked at Butlerville Elementary for one year before transferring to Scipio Elementary where she served as the school secretary for 12 years.

At the same time, Mrs. Embry worked for the North Vernon Hospital (now the St. Vincent Jennings Hospital) as a Guild Lady. She continued to volunteer at the hospital for 35 years. In addition to her husband and parents, Kathryn is preceded in death by one sister, Harriet Belle Sherbundy; one brother, Harry Robert Purkhiser, Jr.; and one great grandson, Gregory Andrew Embry.

She is survived by her son, Donald Earl Embry, Sr. and his wife Shirley Mae Critchlow Embry of Tullahoma; three grandchildren, Donald Earl Embry Jr. and his wife Colleen McGee Embry of Shelbyville, Susan Leslie Ingels and her husband Brian of Edinburgh, IN, and Dave Robert Embry and his wife Tracey Sevener Embry of Midlothian, VA; five great-grandchildren, Christopher Matthew Ingels of Edinburgh, IN, Donald Kirk Embry and his wife Kayla Shade Embry of Murfeesboro, TN, Kelly Caye Ingels of Edinburgh, IN, William Robert Embry of Midlothian, VA, and John Bruce Embry of Midlothian, VA; and four great-great-grandchildren, Emma Claire Embry of Smyrna, Scarlett Emerson Embry of Murfreesboro, Emery Caye Kemp of Edinburgh, IN, and Donald Luke Embry of Murfreesboro. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 18th, 2019, at Kilgore Funeral Home in Tullahoma from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Another visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service in North Vernon, from 12:00-2:00pm with the funeral to follow at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana.
