Retired Master Sargent, Kenneth A. Tyler of West Gardiner, died June 21,2018 at St. Mary’s Medical Center after a courageous and always hope filled battle with cancer. Ken was born in Waterbury, CT. , to Kenneth and Rachael Tyler on September 22,1945.

He joined the Air Force in 1968 and was on Permanent Assignment for 23 years at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs where he was the Percussion Director and choreographer and show designer for the Air Force Academy Cadet Drum and Bugle Corps. Ken studied music at the University of Colorado. Ken loved music, especially Drum Corps; first performing with the Prospect Drum Corp at the age of 8 and then the Marksmen Drum and Bugle Corps, Springfield, MA.

After retiring from the Air Force, Ken worked with the New York City Skyliner’s Drum and Bugle Corps. Kenneth moved to Lincoln, Maine in 1989, and worked at Lee Academy in the Band Department. He directed the Governor’s Restaurant All Maine Marching Band, marching in parades throughout the state.

He and his wife, Martha, moved to the Gardiner area where Ken started a successful business building garages, sheds and playhouses. Ken was an active member of Christ Church Episcopal and a member of the Elks Lodge in Colorado Springs, and the American Legion Post in Litchfield Ken will be sadly missed and forever loved by his wife, Martha, his son, Marc and daughter-in-law, Allison, his daughter, Cathy, his granddaughters ; to whom he was “Pa”; Catie Jo and Meghan, his brother Bob and sister-in-law, Mim, his sister-in-law, Loretta, his brother-in-law, Danny, his Aunt Josie, cousins, nieces and nephews, and his many friends, especially Al and Colleen and his dog Hershey. Funeral services will be held at Christ Church, Gardiner on Wednesday, June 27, at 1 PM with a reception in celebration of Ken’s life, to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ Church, Dresden Ave. , Gardiner, in Kenneth’s name.
