Kenneth Granvil Major January 23, 1933 – March 09, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Kenneth Granvil Major, 86, of McAlester, died Saturday, March 9, in McAlester. The family will welcome friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church of McAlester, officiated by Pastor Steve Mayhew, with Bill Kirk and Doug Christian assisting. Pallbearers are Chad Cooksey, Jonas Branscum, Jason Sewell, Kevin Major, Andrew Major and Kent Towne.

Honorary Pallbearers are Stuart Branscum, Carl Camp, Jack Mouser, Charlie Christian, Bob Miller, Bill Kirk and retired members of the 445th Military Police Company of the Oklahoma National Guard. Kenneth Major was born on Jan. 23, 1933 in LeFlore, Ok.

to Basil and Cleo (Davis) Major. He grew up in LeFlore and Wilburton, which he considered home at that time. He married Norma Jean Funderburg in Wilburton on June 14, 1952.

They moved to McAlester in 1959 and Kenneth went to work at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, where he worked as a records clerk until his retirement. After retiring he worked a while for Trover Security at the Army Ammunition Plant. Kenneth was also an ordained minister and preached at numerous churches in the McAlester and Wilburton areas.

His spare time was taken up by family and his love of flowers and art. Every year he created a showcase back yard with his colorful landscaping, and as an accomplished artist, he put his visions on canvas for all to enjoy. Kenneth also served in the U.S. Army for two years, then served in the Oklahoma National Guard 445th Military Police Company for many years, until retiring.

Kenneth was a long-time member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of McAlester. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean Major; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Gayla Major; grandchildren, Chris Major and Kevin Major and his wife, Eboni; great grandchildren, Memrie Tohkubbi, Keehanna Major, Andrew Major and Deakon Major; a son-in-law, Donny Morgan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Karen Morgan, his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
