A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at Bishop Chapel of Memories in McAlester officiated by Rev. Jacob Toews.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay McCauley, Ted McCauley, Gary Johnson, and Ross Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Monty Johnson, Cody Rich, Mylan Johnson, and Mason Johnson.

Richard was born on June 8, 1939 to William T. and Neta (McCoy) Johnson in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Smithville High School in Smithville, Oklahoma. Richard went on to graduate from Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, and then obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah.

He married Linda Joyce Hensley on May 9, 1970 in McAlester. He worked as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration for over 30 years. Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger as well as attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events and sporting activities.

He also enjoyed reading, writing poetry, crossword puzzles, and watching the Game Show Network, especially enjoying Wheel of Fortune. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Linda Joyce Johnson, and sisters: Clara Ethel King and Wanda Lou McCauley. He is survived by his daughter: Angela D. Gallegos and husband, Richard of Calera; son: Monty C. Johnson of McAlester; grandchildren: Cody Rich of Bokchito, Mikaela Rich of Plano, Texas, Mylan Johnson, Mason Johnson, both of McAlester; brothers: Bill Johnson of Talihina, Darrell Johnson of Montana; sister-in-law: Betty Morris; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
