Roy’s Obituary Roy “Papa” Lee Salyers, 97, of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at his home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in McAlester with Rev. James Crowson officiating.

Interment will follow. Viewing will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel in McAlester. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Anthony Salyers, Cameron Fields, Rob Dale, Matthew Dale, Cody Enloe, Garret Enloe, Bob Monto and Rick Buckner.

Roy was born February 15, 1922 in Hartshorne, Oklahoma to Charles Gilbert (C.G.) and Minnie Mae (Tucker) Salyers. Roy married Betty Maxine Lewis on October 5, 1942 in Independence, Kansas. Roy served in the United States Army.

He worked on his father’s farm, a dairy and retired from the McAlester (US Naval) Army Ammunition Plant after 30 years of service as a machinist. Roy also was a co-owner of Art’s Marine Shop in McAlester. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, hunting, fishing, bowling and raising cattle on his farm.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Salyers of the home; daughters, Barbara Monto and husband, Robert of McAlester, Oklahoma and Donna Scrivner and Rick Buckner also of McAlester; daughter-in-law, Lyn (Thomas) Salyers of McAlester; grandchildren, Karen Dale, Michelle Coverdell, Cameron Fields, Whitlee Sanders, Natalie Hamilton, Anthony Salyers; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, C.G. and Minnie Salyers, 4 sisters, 2 brothers and a son, Billy Ray Salyers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home in McAlester, Oklahoma.
