Lael Larsen 1930-2018 Lael Steele Larsen, 87, was born in Goshen, Utah on November 6, 1930 and passed away peacefully at home in Bountiful, Utah on June 4, 2018 due to health issues. She is the daughter of Don Claude and Ruby Smith Steele. She married Thomas Edward Larsen on July 2, 1954 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple.

She graduated from the LDS Hospital Nursing School and received her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Utah in 1953 and her Masters of Nursing from Brigham Young University in 1983. Tom and Lael built a home in Bountiful in 1961 where they lived and raised three lovely daughters. Lael was unique in her day for maintaining a home and career.

She spent hours teaching first aid and health classes. She was active in the nursing association including teaching at BYU and serving as president of the Utah League for Nursing in 1991. She retired after 23 years as a Professor of Nursing at Weber State University in 1996.

She was an excellent cook, a gracious hostess and loved to have friends and family gathered at her home. She was a voracious reader and loved learning and teaching. She loved travel and was able to vacation around the world.

She was an active faithful member of the LDS Church and had many callings throughout her life. While in Bountiful, Tom and Lael have made many lifelong and dear friends. Lael is survived by her husband Tom and three daughters Judy (Val) Bird of Sandy, Karen (Joe) Bateman of Ogden, and LuAnn (Chris) Hadlock of Steamboat Springs, CO; brothers Owen (Peggy) Steele of Salt Lake City and Mark (Doris) Steele of Ogden; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Don Steele and Wesley Steele. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 9th , 11:00 am, at the Woods Cross 3rd Ward Chapel, 1450 S. 350 W. Bountiful, UT. Visitation for friends and family Friday, June 8th from 6-8 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 at the Church prior to services.

Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.
