Our beloved Mother, Granny, Great-Granny and friend passed away peacefully May 28, 2018 in Arizona at the age of 87 with family at her side. Mary was born January 18, 1931 in Jacksonville, Florida to John Theron Morrison and Mary Evelyn McCallman. Mary was known for her smile that could light up a room, her sparkling blue eyes, and her generous and kind spirit.
Mary grew up in Jacksonville and Miami, where she likely developed her lifelong love of avocados and tomatoes with miracle whip. At the age of seven she joined the LDS Church with her parents and remained a faithful member. One of her greatest passions was her children and family.
Mary married Evan Lyman in the Arizona temple in 1954 and was a supportive wife during Evan’s service in the Army and Air Force, later moving to Utah with him. Together they had four children who she devoted her life to serving and raising. Mary enjoyed camping from annual events like Memorial Day in Oak City, Utah to tubing the South Fork of Ogden Canyon on Pioneer Day.
She and her mother shared their camping passion with the Young Women where she taught crafts and supported the ward’s Girls camp for many years. Once her children were in school, she worked as a bookkeeper at a law firm. After separating from her husband, she attended college at Weber State University and worked at Hill Field Air Force Base for many years until retirement.
While working, going to school and caring for her children she also was caregiver for her elderly parents. Following her passion for temple work, she served an LDS mission at the Washington DC temple. During her mission, she reconnected with an old friend, Jim Harlow, and they were married in the Ogden Temple in 2005.
Mary had a passion for family history and devoted her later years to doing genealogy and temple work. For the last years of her life, Mary lived near some of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in Arizona where they lovingly cared for her. Nothing brought a smile to Mary’s face faster than getting to see the children in her life playing.
We will miss her love of chocolate and flowers, her southern cooking, and above all the unending love she had for her family. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, brother John Theron Morrison, Jr., and grandson Ashton Lyman. She is survived by her four children and 20 grandchildren: Spencer Lyman (Pam) of Mesa, Arizona; and children Sandi Lyman (Jessica), Erin Trepanier (Matt), Tara Lyman, Jarom McMahon (Chastidy), Hannah Lyman and Emma Lyman; Melinda Montierth (Leonard) of Herriman, Utah; and children Tyson Montierth (Danielle), Tyler Montierth, Trevor Montierth, Talia Montierth and Trent Montierth; John Lyman (Tami) of Centerville, Utah; and children Jeremy Lyman, Tod Lyman, Tiegen Lyman, Jaxon Lyman, Teryn Lyman, Jared Lyman, Taz Lyman and Jace Lyman; LeAnn Lyman (Jeff) of Apache Junction, Arizona; and child Austin Thomas.
Mary is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery, 1050 South State Street.
