Larry Wayne Helms, 74, of Oakboro, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019 at his home. Mr. Helms was born March 25, 1944 to the late Crowell Lee and Flora Little Helms. Larry enjoyed his service to his community through the Oakboro Fire Department, where he served as Chief for over ten years.

He also loved to garden and work in the yard, but will most be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:45 pm, Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Hartsell Funeral Home Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel officiated by Mr. Chip Alsobrooks.

Burial will conclude at the Smith Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery at Highway 138, Oakboro. Survivors include: wife, Phyllis Carol Helms; daughter, Carol Murray and husband Dudley; son, Jeff “Hawg” Helms and wife Kelley; grandchildren, Matthew Murray and wife, Sara, Maggie Murray, Blythe Whitley, Braxton Whitley; great-grandchildren, Brantley Murray, Braelynn Murray; sisters, Irene Thomas and Betty Goodman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakboro Fire Dept.
