George “Olin” Gilbert, 76, of New London, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at Atrium Health Stanly in Albemarle after his 20 year battle with cancer. Mr. Gilbert was born January 18, 1942 in South Carolina to the late George Ray and Mary Lois Lambert Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by step-mother, Connie Williams Gilbert and step-brother, Fred Lee Morton, Jr. Olin was the owner and operator of Smith’s Radiator for 25 years.

He enjoyed spending time at the lake with family and friends, either fishing or boating, but will be remembered most as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Hartsell Funeral Home Albemarle. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11:00 am, located at Kendalls Baptist Church, 32157 Kendalls Church Road, New London, officiated by Rev.

Chris Fox and Rev. Keith Walters. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military and Masonic honors.

Survivors include: wife of 55 years, Linda Lomax Gilbert; son, Jeff Gilbert and wife Christy; daughter, Jennifer Burleson and husband Neil; grandchildren, Blake, Natalee, and Preston Gilbert and Conner, Kaylin, and Camden Burleson; brother, Donald Gilbert of Vancouver, Canada and nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Kendall’s Baptist Church, 32157 Kendalls Church Road, New London, NC. 28127.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Gilbert family.
