JANESVILLE—Laurie J. Bartz, age 61, transitioned to eternal life on Monday, June 18, 2018. She was born in Janesville on September 22, 1956, the daughter of Robert and Charlene (Press) Hefty. She was a 1974 graduate of Parker High School and went on to obtain degrees in music and elementary education from UW-Rock County and UW-Whitewater.

She married Randall W. Bartz on June 3, 1978, in Milton. She leaves as her legacy 3 children: Brian (Shannon), Eric (Katie), and Jarred Bartz. Her truest joy was found in her 8 grandchildren: Broderick, Jacob, Celia, Anabel, Emalyne, Daniel, Eloise, and Cora.

Her children and grandchildren remember her as a lovable and empathetic person who always brought a smile, a game, and a book to every occasion. Laurie worked as a Young Adult Librarian in the Janesville Hedberg Public Library for many years. She served her community there in many capacities over her 30 year career.

She also taught elementary education at Rock County Christian School for 5 years and in the Janesville Public School District Summer School program for 13 years. Laurie was a passionate advocate for her Janesville Community in many ways, and was awarded a Certificate of Achievement by the city in 2014. She was also named as a UW-Rock County Distinguished Alumna in 2013.

Laurie is survived by her children; grandchildren; parents, Robert and Charlene Hefty; brothers, Bill and Rob Hefty; sister, Teri ( Pat) Kelly; father of her children, Randy Bartz; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Nathaniel Bartz; grandparents; great aunt, Donna Pfeiffer; and nephew, Matthew Kelly. Family, friends, and others whose lives Laurie touched are invited to celebrate her life at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, Rev.

Jerry Amstutz will be officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Angel Tullar for her assistance and Agrace Hospice for their incredible compassion and care during Laurie’s transition.
