Obituary for Harold Smith Harold W. Smith, age 81, of Janesville died on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Rock Haven Nursing Home. He was born in Mauston, WI on February 11, 1937, the son of the late Theodore and Mildred (Nemec) Smith. Harold graduated from Hillsboro High School and honorably served in the US Army.

On April 24, 1965, he married Joan M. Gardner at St. James Catholic Church in Madison. She predeceased him on May 8, 2017. Harold worked for over 41 years at General Motors retiring in 2000.

Harold always worked two jobs providing for his family. He was a very outgoing, generous, and friendly gentleman, who was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. His hobbies included riding his Harley and working on cars, maintaining and repairing his own vehicles as well as others.

He is survived by his four daughters: Amy (Larry) Wescott of Brodhead, Kris (Larry Kellicut) Bendorf of Beloit, Tasha (Gary) Jarstad of Janesville, and Nikki (Chad) Wolf of Janesville; grandchildren: Ryan (Erin), Kyle, Dustin, Riley, Tanner, Matthew, Mason, Joe, Kylie, and Brittan; and great-grandchildren: Kamren, Carter, and Jade. He is further survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law: Joyce and Jim Burkholder of Madison, WI, Jack and Barb Gardner of Las Cruces, NM, Jean Gardner of Madison, WI, Mary Moffett of Lake City, FL, Jim and Kathy Gardner of Waukesha, WI, Dennis Gardner of Louisville, CO, and Clayton Poller of Platteville, WI. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son: William, and his sister: Ann Gunem.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Whitcomb – Lynch Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Amstutz officiating. Burial will be next to his wife at Mt.

Olivet Cemetery with full Military Rites provided by VFW Kienow Hilt Post 1621. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Thank you to the Rock Haven Nursing Home staff for the wonderful care given to Harold the last three years.

Also, thank you to the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their compassion and care provided to Harold and his family the last couple of weeks. It was greatly appreciated.
