Leland “Doc” Lemon, 82, of Williamstown passed away February 17, 2019 Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 1, 1936 in Parkersburg, the only son of the late Gilbert Edgar and Lillian Lucile Coe Lemon and grew up in Mineral Wells. Doc graduated from Parkersburg High School with the Class of 1954 then entered the US Air Force.

While stationed at the McCord Air Force Base in Tacoma Washington he met the love of his life, wife Betty. He spent most of his service in Tripoli, Libya and North Africa. He retired from DuPont Washington Works, power house, after thirty-four years of service as a supervisor.

. Doc was a member of First Baptist Church of Williamstown for many years. He was involved in many church activities including the Senior Adult Ministries, operated the sound system for the 8:30 service for years, served on the Welcoming Committee setting up the coffee and donuts for the members and guests.

He had a servants heart and collected donations for the Food Pantry. Doc enjoyed caring for his lawn, especially mowing and even mowed several neighbors lawns just to help others. Doc enjoyed bluegrass music and played in several local bluegrass bands, even until about a month ago.

He was WV Fiddler Champion for several years and wanted all his grandchildren to learn to play. He went to several local nursing homes weekly to play for the residents. Leland is survived by his wife Betty Lou Norris Lemon, whom he married August 2, 1958, children Mark (Edie) Lemon of Williamstown, Dale (Jodi) Lemon of St. Mary’s, WV, Beth (Burr) Stanley of Parkersburg, grandchildren LeAnn (Justin) Bennett, Christopher Shawn Lemon, Nicole Lemon (Corey Updike), Katie Lemon, Matthew (Alison) ton, Marlee ton (Ryan Allman), step grandchildren Chevis (Kim) Stanley, Cheyanne (Bryan) Crislip, Zach (Kristen) Stanley, great grandchildren, Jackson and Jacob Bennett, Joseph Michael Lemon, Caysen Starling, step great grandchildren, Parker Stanley, Cooper Emerson, Conner Crislip and Sutton Griffin and Judah Stanley.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday at First Baptist Church of Williamstown with Pastors David Easter and Chad Mugrage officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be held 3 – 5 and 6 – 8 on Thursday at First Baptist Church in Williamstown and for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
