Leslye Lightsey Fleniken died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Born on February 7, 1920 in Fairfax, SC to Ralph Leon Lightsey and Eula Harrison Lightsey, Mrs. Fleniken was a graduate of Fairfax High School and Winthrop College. She received her Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling later in her career.

She spent 35 years teaching in the Williston-Elko, Bamberg, and Lake City public schools before serving as a guidance counselor from 1975-1982, when she retired. She loved her students and continued to cherish the memories of those years. In addition to teaching school, she served for over 50 years as an adult Sunday School teacher at Lake City First Baptist Church, affectionately referring to her class as “my girls”.

She also served as a church deacon for a number of years. Mrs. Fleniken was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Lewis R. Fleniken; her parents; and 5 brothers, 1st Lt. Ralph Leon Lightsey, Capt.

John Harold Lightsey, James Max Lightsey, Wilbur Lamar Lightsey and David Grosclose Lightsey. Surviving are a son, Lewis R. Fleniken, Jr. (Paula) of Columbia, and daughters, Leslye F. Newton (Paul Consolo) of Mount Pleasant and Louisa F. Neel (Jim) of Wichita, KS; 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 4 sisters, Louetta Barr of Newberry, Theresa Monts (Doug) of Fairfax, Annelle McCaskey of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Jenny Causey (Sam) of Fairfax.

The family would like to thank the outstanding team of caregivers, whose caring and expertise over the past few years cannot be overstated. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Lake City First Baptist Church. Visitation will take place in the Fellowship Hall of the church prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.
