Lois’ Obituary Lois Jean (Freeman) Smith, age 87, of Ashland, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Court Manor Health Services in Ashland. She was born September 4, 1931 in Ashland, the daughter of Lyle and Irene (Pendergast) Freeman. Lois graduated in 1949 from Ashland High School and continued her schooling at Northland College.

She married Richard E. Smith on January 6, 1951 and they raised their family in Ashland. Lois was a loving wife and homemaker. She worked for over 25 years at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center as a nurses aide.

She enjoyed music and played organ and piano for most of her life. She also enjoyed working outdoors with Richard on their hobby farm taking care of the horses, apple trees and gardening. She is survived by four children, Carole Gilbert, Kevin (Sherry) Smith, Loreen Berg and Doreen Martin; 12 grandchildren, Merit (Steve) Sowards, Lauren (Chris) Dvornick, Victor Gilbert, Todd (Audrey) Smith, Cody (Nate) Farvour, Lindsey (Allen) Mattson, Amber Berg, Nicole (Kris McRoy) Berg, Andrew Ohlinger, Ashley (Adam Radosevich) Martin, Jenna (Cole Spindler) Martin and D.J. Martin; 12 great-grandchildren, Morgan Sowards, Jillayne Kathryn, Dereck Smith, Brandon Smith, Kyle Smith, Avery Smith, Estelle Farvour, Franklin Farvour, William Mattson, Isaiah Ohlinger, Kamden Martin and Zoey McRoy; a brother, Don Freeman; a daughter-in-law, Lottie Smith; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard in 1986; son Rick Smith; and son-in-law, Van Gilbert. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 29, 2019 at Frost Home for Funerals in Ashland with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the services at the Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland.

Interment will be held at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ashland this spring.
