Luther “Role” McIntyre died peacefully at Family Hospice & Palliative Care on May 25 in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania at the age of 67. Luther is survived by his son, Kasey (Keely) McIntyre; sisters, Shelma Lee, Bonnie Chilton, and Lutricia Osborne; brother, Marlon McIntyre; and grandsons, Eben, Arlo, and Otis McIntyre.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Melanie (Frazier) McIntyre; his brother, Terrance McIntyre; and his parents, Luther Sr. and Martha (Minnie) McIntyre. Role was born on November 9, 1950 in North Charleroi, Pennsylvania to Luther and Martha McIntyre. He graduated from Belle Vernon Area High School in 1968, enlisted in the United States Navy, and served for numerous years that included the Vietnam War.

Upon completing his military service, Luther worked as a supervisor at Volkswagen in Greensburg, then at US Steel’s Irvin Works facility in West Mifflin until he retired in the early 2000s. Loved ones remember Role as a kind-hearted, caring man with enormous love for his family. He was an enthusiastic vegetable gardener who grew heaps of beautiful produce which he shared with friends and neighbors throughout his years at his Hill Street, Belle Vernon home.

His favorite pastime was feeding others, and he’ll always be remembered for his famous BBQ sauce and passion for grilling the most amazing food. He was also an avid fan of college basketball and his grandsons’ soccer pursuits. A BBQ will be held at a later date this summer to celebrate Role’s life.

The family would like to thank the staffs at the practice of Southwest Medical, UPMC Mercy, and Family Hospice & Palliative Care for their care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends and loved ones please consider a donation to Mollie’s Seal of Love, a fund to help dear friends support their young daughter’s life with a severe congenital brain abnormality.
