Lyle Sielaff, 102, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2018 at the American Grand Assisted Living Facility in Kaukauna, WI. He was born on April 1, 1916 in Eden, WI to Frank and Anna (Grahl) Sielaff. Lyle graduated from Hilbert, WI High School in 1933 and attended Moore Business College in Racine, WI.

From the age of 18, Lyle was engaged in printing/publishing, owning interests in newspapers/print shops (the Hilbert Favorite, the Calumet Printing Company in Chilton, WI and the Hustisford News in Hustisford, WI) and finishing his career at the Kaukauna Times, retiring in 1985 after 35 years. Lyle was drafted into the United States Army in 1942 and served his country nearly three years in the US Army Field Artillery at Fort Sill, OK. He graduated from Officers Candidate School while there as a Second Lieutenant.

He was proud of his service and pleased to participate in an Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2012. On Easter Sunday, April 21, 1946, Lyle married his wife, Alice (Ploeckelman) at St.Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hilbert, WI. During their 63 years of marriage, they traveled to nine Elder Hostels, drove to Alaska and enjoyed two trips abroad to Switzerland.

They built, shared and enjoyed their cabin on the Oconto River in the Township of Breed. Lyle was well known for his artistic work including woodworking, stained glass, oil and water color painting. He produced artwork right up to the end of his life.

Lyle is survived by son David and his wife Linda and his children, Nathan (son Nicholas), Ellen (Gary) Frisque (sons Joel and Collin and daughter Kate, and Jonah (Stephanie); his daughter, Suzanne Hock, her long time companion, Aaron Olden and her daughters, Catherine Schoenike (son Eli and daughter Anna) and Julie Hock. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, in 2009, his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna and on Tuesday, April 24 from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church, 124 W. 10th Street with services being held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Hilbert, WI. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested donations in Lyle’s name to Bethany Lutheran Church or 1000 Islands Environmental Center, 1000 Beaulieu Ct. , Kaukauna, WI 54130.

The family will be forever grateful for the tender, loving care of nurses from Heartland Hospice Care, staff at the American Grand, and Pastor Walt Steinbach, who has been a friend and minister to the family for many years.
