Funeral services for Lynne Black, age 77, of Hideaway, Texas are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Lindale, Texas with Dr. Bryan Brown officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Shiloh Cemetery in Alto, Texas. Lynne passed from this earth into the arms of God on January 4, 2019 in McKinney, Texas.
She was born on April 19, 1941 in Camden, New Jersey to the late Jacob Omar and Ruth (Miller) Hartman. At age one, Lynne’s family was transferred to Lake Charles, Louisiana where she attended public schools and graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1959 with many honors. Lynne enjoyed the culture of Southern Louisiana and continued to express her love of much laughter and great food.
Lynne grew up in the Presbyterian Church and graduated from Austin College with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1963. While attending college there, she was the president of her sorority and head majorette. After Lynne’s graduation, she began her teaching career with Dallas ISD and later with Tyler ISD and retired after a 30-year career from Lindale ISD.
Her previous occupation as a wife and mother is where she was at her best. Lynne was a member of the Lindale First United Methodist Church where she organized the “Builders Sunday School Class”. This class continues to flourish today with many mission projects and church activities that were her original guidelines.
After her retirement in 1995, much time was spent traveling, enjoying social affairs and church activities which filled the remainder of her life. Lynne is survived by her husband of 50 years, Billy Black of Hideaway, Texas; son & daughter-in-law, Lance & Marianne Black of McKinney, Texas; daughter & son-in-law, Becky & Jim Thacker of Celina, Texas; grandchildren, Carson Black of McKinney, Texas, Ben Thacker of Celina, Texas, Baily Thacker of Celina, Texas, Madi Black of McKinney, Texas; sisters, Barbara Hindgardner of Alberndale, Florida and Dot Harper of Olney, Maryland; and several nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. Pallbearers will include, Richard and Kathleen Stallings, Bill and Joy Smith, Kyle and Diane Preston, Harry and Shirley Poulan, and Dr. Tom Eckert.
Honorary pallbearers are the Builders Sunday school class. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale, Texas. In lieu of flowers, all acts of love may be made by contributing to the Lindale First United Methodist Church “Builders Class” Fund or to the Shiloh Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 315, Alto, Texas 75925.
