Marcus “Biddy” Kettler November 20, 1958 – January 04, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Send Sympathy Card Marcus “Biddy” Kettler, 60, husband of Linda Marie Balke Kettler, died January 4, 2019 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church of Industry, with Father Tim Bucek, Celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Marcus Kettler was born November 20, 1958 in Brenham to Wilbert and O’Dell Huseman Kettler. He was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn, where he was later confirmed.
On May 16, 1987, he married Linda Marie Balke at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Industry. Biddy was very smart and knew a little something about everything. He loved history and the “Old West”.
He enjoyed watching old westerns on TV. He even dressed as they did in the old days with his boots, cowboy hat, 2 six shooter by his side, holding a riffle, and wearing his old west duster. Biddy’s western name was “Binto”.
He was an avid gun collector and knew everything there was to know about guns. If you went to the grocery store or Wal Mart you would find Biddy browsing the magazine isle. He loved to read.
Biddy was also an armchair politician and stayed up with all the political events by watching Fox News on a daily basis. He always had an opinion about what was happening in our country’s government. In his early years he loved to scuba dive.
He would scuba dive with the College Station Group to various sites including the Flower Garden Banks located in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. Besides scuba diving Biddy and Linda went on numerous ski trips with their special group of friends. Biddy also loved his home away from home which is their camp house in Matagorda.
He had plans to buy a Kayak and try to do some fishing. If you went to a wedding you would see Linda and Biddy dancing the jitterbug. Biddy was known as the “Jitterbug” King.
Biddy did not have any children but he was involved in the lives of all the nieces and nephews. He would play with them when they were little and they would always have so much fun since Biddy was a “big kid” himself. He loved helping them find sea shells when we all went to the beach.
How did he get the name Biddy? He was the smaller baby out of a set of twins. Since he was the smaller one, his Pampo named him “Biddy” which means “small” in German.
Biddy would always put a smile on your face and his family loved him very much. He will be missed. Survivors include his wife, Linda Marie Kettler of Brenham; brother and sister-in-law Mark and Betty Kettler; sister-in-law Lisa Kettler; mother-in-law Tillie Balke; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Charles and Pat Balke; Freddie and Sharon Behnke.
Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, as well as a special cousin, Kathleen Rude. Marcus was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and O’Dell Kettler; sister, Linda Kay Kettler; brother, John Kettler, and father-in-law Charles Balke Sr. Serving as pallbearers are Nick Balke, Bryn Behnke, Jeremy Balke, Joey Wallace, Brian Rosenbaum, John Ross Kettler, Kevin Finke, and Clinton Kettler. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Lam, Michael Schroeder, Emmett and Dorothy Morgan, Craig Kankel, and Joey Muegge.
