Margaret Ann “Margie” O’Bryan, 72, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 11, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones. Born Dec. 7, 1945, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Martin (Ted) and Irene Povish Miller.
Margie was a 1964 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. She worked as a Nurses Aid at Williamsport Hospital and then became a phlebotomist and took a position with Divine Providence Hospital. She always said, “The best part of that job was to drive Sister Emily’s Cadillac” to visit home bound patients, in the area.
She also was a teachers aid for Curtin Elementary School. During this extraordinarily busy time in her life, she also raised three children. Margie helped with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, one of which was Old Colony Council 21 in Hull, Massachusetts.
Margie was a great patriot. She was the driving force that encouraged her husband to stay in the Army Reserves and National Guard. She loved being an Army wife.
Attending formal dinners, grand ball functions, meeting Generals and staff members was a great honor for Margie. She would say “Just being near those men and women would make the hair stand up on your arm”. Margie loved being an Army wife where she proudly supported her husband as he served in the Army for 38 years.
She was an active member helping to raise money for the National Army Museum in Washington D.C. and St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Margie enjoyed the many reunions with the combat men and families of the 1st & 2nd BN, 2nd INF, 1st ID. She loved camping, fishing and traveling.
Margie was in ill health a lot of her life, but managed to travel through 43 states including Hawaii, several trips to Canada and the Bahamas. She loved gatherings with family and friends. Margie was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and attended Diamond Street Christian Church.
She was a former member of VFW 7863 Auxiliary and current Auxiliary member of American Legion Post 1, Williamsport. Margie was a volunteer for Little League International. We the family would like to thank The American Legion Post 1 for all the support and assistance with Margie’s journey through this past year.
Surviving is her husband of 53 years, CW 3 Roderick L. O’Bryan; three children, Pamela (Chadd) Myers, of Williamsport, Julie O’Bryan, of Carlisle and Sean O’Bryan, of Williamsport; siblings, Judy (Col John) Maietta, Marvin (Chris) Miller and Arlene Crouse; six grandchildren: Corey, Michael, Malissa, Christian, Brenden and Shayna; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth. A celebration of life will be held on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, with Pastor Belton Mobley, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
A time of food and fellowship will follow at Diamond Street Christian Church, Newberry. A private Interment will be at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery for family and friends.
The family will provide the flowers.
