January 12, 2019 in Harlingen. She was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and friend.

“Chavela or Chavelita” as her family and friends knew her best, was born on September 23, 1934. She married Abelino Canales on January 25, 1960. She took great joy in taking care of her grandchildren, making them gorditas, bunuelos, playing chalupa and reading to them.

She lived a very happy and fulfilled life and will be dearly missed. Preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister. She is survived by her children, Blanca (David) Garza,Pedro Antonio “Tony” (Norma) Canales, Dora Alicia (Valerio) Longoria and Benito (Cynthia) Canales, Grandchildren, Santiago David Garza, Ramiro Roberto Garza, Erasmo (Marisella) Chapa, Eric (Amy) Chapa, Celina Isabel (Jaime) Rangel, Samantha Longoria, Michael Anthony Canales, Matthew Robert Canales, Abel Alfredo Canales and Abraham Elijah Canales, great grandchildren, Karolina and Kolette, Madison, Katherine, Courtney and Colton, Sister, Juana Hernandez.

She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held today Monday January 14, 2019 from 1 pm to 9 pm with a prayer of the Holy Rosary service to begin at 7 pm in the evening. Funeral Mass of Christian burial is tentatively scheduled to be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday January 15, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Las Rusias.

Interment and Commital Service will follow at Las Rusias Cemetery. Honored to be her pallbearers will be Santiago David Garza, Ramiro Roberto Garza, Erasmo Chapa, Eric Chapa, Michael Anthony Canales, Abel Alfredo Canales and Abraham Elijah Canales. Arrangements are under the direction of Trinity at Harrison Funeral Home, 1002 East Harrison Ave.
