Maria D. Pestana, 80, formerly of East St., Providence, passed away peacefully with her family at her side early Thursday morning, January 10, 2019. She was the wife of the late Francisco Pestana. Born August 15, 1938, in Sao Miguel, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joao Furtado and Maria do Carmo.

Maria was a devoted mother and grandmother, and nothing brought her more happiness and joy than having her family close by. She was the mother of Maria Huntoon and her husband David of Warwick, Jose Pestana and his wife Melissa of Glocester, Lucia Maddalone and her husband Chris of New York, the late Joao Pestana and the late Antone Pestana; grandmother of 15 and great grandmother of 10. She was also the sister of Maria Carvalho of Providence, Virginia Verissimo of Canada, Antonio Furtado of Sao Miguel, the late Virginio Furtado, the late Domingos Furtado and the late Jose Furtado.

Her funeral will begin Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 8:30am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Joseph Church, 92 Hope St., Providence. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
