Marie Powell Martin, 83, of 231 Preston Place, departed this life on Saturday, March 09, 2019 at the Hospice of the Piedmont in Charlottesville, VA after a brief illness. Marie was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on January 9, 1936 a daughter of the late Lonnie Powell and Edna Richardson Powell. Marie was the Treasurer for Abercrombie Oil Company and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

On August 31, 1963 she married, Darrel B. Martin, who survives of the residence. Survivors also include a son, Michael H. Tickle, and wife, Donna; two daughters, Peggy T. Walker, Susan T. Ranson; two brothers, Curtis Powell, and wife, Frances; Ray Powell, and wife, Ruth; a sister, Earline P. Anderson, and husband, Harold; five grandchildren, Jason Tickle, Kyle Tickle, Lindsey Waller, Taylor Scott, Caitlyn Ranson and three great-grandchildren, Jalyn, Grace, Liev. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel conducted by the Rev.

Bob Yeaman. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12:30-1:45 PM at the funeral home and at the residence at other times.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church College Fund or to a charity of your choice.
