Marilyn Dix Smith McGhan, age 74, of DeGraff, Ohio passed away at 8:00 A.M. Sunday, October 21, 2018 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio following complications from a car accident. She was born in Newark, Ohio March 4, 1944 to the late Robert and Edna (Oyer) Dix. Marilyn is survived by her husband William F. McGhan, whom she married January 28, 1990.

She is also survived by her three sons, Brent Smith, Brian Smith, and Matthew McGahn; a daughter, Monica Vandenberg; eight grandchildren and two sisters, Roberta Sullivan and Patricia Casillas. A licensed pharmacist, Marilyn received her pharmacy degree and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Science from The Ohio State University. She served as founding Executive Director of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR.org) for nearly twenty years.

Prior to that, Marilyn served at Lederle Labs as Director of Quality Control and then Director of Professional Relations. She was a founding board member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AAPS) and was elected President and CEO for 1991. She had published many professional publications and given multiple presentations around the world.

Marilyn received many honors and awards throughout her career and served on numerous review committees for the National Cancer Institute. She was a member of many professional and scientific organizations as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution. Marilyn was very proud of her vineyard and greatly appreciated the support and assistance offered by the community.

She also enjoyed the time she spent working alongside the members of the Riverside community’s G.R.A.C. E organization. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in DeGraff.

Inurnment will be at the Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff at a later date. The arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in DeGraff. DS Donations may be made to: The Womans Place 300 & 301 Hale Hall| 154 W 12th.
