OBITUARY Marlene Denise Shepard October 8, 1969 – October 1, 2018 Marlene Denise Shepard, 48, of Bristol, passed away Monday, October 1, 2018 after succumbing to injuries from being struck by an automobile. Born in Hartford on October 8, 1969, she was the daughter of Peter and Laura Ann Varhol of New Britain. Marlene attended Plainville High School, graduated New Britain High School and was currently enrolled in Kaplan University, pursuing a degree in forensic psychology / criminal justice.

She also served as secretary of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars for Kaplan. A loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother and grandmother, she adored her three sons who were the loves of her life. Marlene was a champion of the underdog and fighter of lost causes.

With her green eyes, beautiful smile and dimples, a big heart and open arms, she would be there for anyone in need. She enjoyed spending time with family, listening to music while studying, playing the piano, fond memories of being a roller-skating ‘Rink Rat’ and was a big cat lover who would never turn away a stray. Marlene will be dearly missed by everyone whose life she touched.

Besides her parents, Marlene is survived by her three sons Joshua R. Shepard, Brandon D. Marek and Avery F. Marek, all of Bristol. She also leaves her very close sister Michele M. Stone of Andover, Connecticut and her brother Mark A. Varhol whom she loved very much and his wife Leonor of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will depart at 9:00am on Thursday from D’ Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd.

, Wethersfield for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Luke Church 66 Bolton St., Hartford. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
