Obituary for Helen Baskiewicz (Lezon) Helen (Lezon) Baskiewicz, 92, long time Wethersfield resident, beloved wife of Peter J. Baskiewicz, peacefully passed away at home, Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Born in Wadowice, Poland, October 16, 1925, she was the daughter to Andrew and Agnes (Kusniesz) Lezon. Helen’s girlhood was shaped by life-changing events of World War II.

In 1940, her family was forcibly evacuated from their dairy farm, placed on cattle trains, where they were taken to and placed in Russian work camps. When Amnesty was granted in 1941, Helen was relocated to East Africa. From there, she enlisted in the WAAFs and was sent to England.

In England, Helen became proficient in English and worked as a draftswoman for the Royal Air Force and Polish Air Force. She was voluntarily discharged form service in 1949 and emigrated to the USA. In the US, Helen first worked for Royal Typewriter in Hartford as a Stenographer, then went on to work for the Aetna as a Medical Secretary.

She met her future husband Peter in church, they married and have celebrated 65 years together, raising their three daughters in the Greater Hartford area. Helen will be remembered for her strength of character, along with being a devoted wife and mother, whose sense of gratitude for her life in America was very special to all who knew her.
